Foreword

The Governing Council of the Philatelic Congress of India, meeting at Bangalore two years ago, felt that the PCI should undertake publication of literature pertaining to Indian philately. It was thought that through such publications the Philatelic Congress of India can best serve the philatelic fraternity the world over. This handbook on the postal and philatelic history of Hyderabad by Dr. M. A.

Nayeem is the first of a dozen monographs the Philatelic Congress of India is planning to publish.

Dr. Nayeem’s handbook breaks new ground in philatelic researches. He is not only a philatelist but also a historian with several research publications to his credit. For the last two decades he has also been contributing articles on philately to learned journals. Scholarly research of two decades has gone into the making of this handbook. Even a casual look into the contents is enough to convince the reader of the wealth of information the author has put in this work. It will remain a last word on the subject for some time to come. Dr. Nayeem fully deserves compliments for his excellent contribution to philately.

Dr. Nayeem’s example, I hope, will be emulated by other philatelists and we may thus get many handbooks on different aspects of India’s philately, which will enable us to make a comparative study of this vital subject and also present an integrated account of philatelic activities in India as a whole.
